For mineral exploration, geological characterization, structural sampling, and geo-engineering
Drilling on dams and inside tunnels, dams, and underground research facilities for engineering and operations
For soil characterization and testing, foundation design, environmental testing, and groundwater monitoring
In situ stress overcoring measurements in rock or concrete for engineering, downhole geomechnical instrumentation, optical borehole logging, and directional surveying
DA Smith is a standout in the field of difficult-access core drilling, mineral exploration drilling, geotechnical drilling, scientific drilling, reclamation drilling, geomechanical instrumentation, and in situ rock overcoring stress measurements, where dependability, value, and quality are the measures of success.
DA Smith is conducting in situ stress measurements at the Dominion Energy Roanoke Rapids Dam using the USBM BDG method. The project includes installation of VW stressmeters to monitor stress internal to the dam, inclinometers, and a telemetry system for remote stressmeter monitoring. Click for details
DA Smith is drilling an multi-year campaign of geotechnical boreholes in soil and rock at roadless sites in the Wasatch Mountains for the world-class Wasatch Peak Ranch ski resort.
DA Smith drilled vertical and angled HQ3 core holes as part of the geotechnical program underway at the La Prele Dam near Douglas, WY. DA Smith is also performing bottom-hole Lugeon pressure (packer) testing to measure the variable hydraulic conductivity of the downstream rock mass. Click for details
DA Smith drilled multiple ODEX/core holes on the main ski run at Keystone Mountain at the end of the 2020-21 ski season. Winter drilling using snowcats was required by the U.S. Forest Service to prevent soil/environmental damage. Click for details
From Sanford Underground Research Facility, Lead, South Dakota in 2021: "DA Smith drilled the new testbed’s nine boreholes, five for injecting or receiving water and four for monitoring the responses in the rock." Read the article Click for project details
Services that we do not offer: domestic water well drilling, horizontal directional drilling for utilities, large-diameter foundation borings for building construction.
