In 2024, DA Smith drilled and instrumented three NQ core holes at the Richmond Mine, located near Redding, California, as part of the EPA-funded acid mine drainage (AMD) remediation program at the Iron Mountain Mine Superfund Site. Holes were completed with YieldPoint Inc. d-Exto multiple point borehole extensometers (MPBX) to design specifications developed by GEI Consultants. Drilling operations were modified to accommodate the presence of exceptionally low pH mine water, reaching a negative pH in parts of the mine. Holes were logged by optical borehole imager (OBI).
The project was completed successfully and ahead of schedule.
