DA Smith was commissioned by RESPEC to Phase 1 and 2 of a multi-year investigative geotechnical drilling program at the La Prele dam, near Douglas, Wyoming, the oldest and tallest open-front dam in the US. Phase 2 during the summer of 2022 required drilling two HQ core holes (200 and 250 feet deep) via helicopter access at a cliff-top location immediately below the existing dam. The holes served to characterize a downstream site for a possible replacement dam. Drilling was completed using DA Smith's Longyear HC-150 fly rig. Helicopter services were subcontracted by DA Smith. The Phase 2 campaign was completed successfully and on schedule in October 2022 before the arrival of winter weather.
