Rock Island Dam

In October 2025, DA Smith started a multi-phase overcore drilling campaign at the Rock Island hydroelectric dam on the Columbia River in Wenatchee, Washington.  Core holes will be drilled in concrete and bedrock to measure the in situ stress state at multiple locations across the dam according to the U.S. Bureau of Mines stress measurement method.  Holes will be completed with various instrumentation, including inclinometers, extensometers, thermistors, and piezometers.  Large diameter core will be taken for structural evaluation and mechanical properties testing.
