In 2018, DA Smith (formerly Agapito Associates, Inc. Field Services) conducted the first stress measurements at the Pumpkin Hollow underground copper mine shortly after construction of the primary production shaft. A total of seven successful 3D stress measurements were conducted from the 1900 Level using CSIRO HI Cell gages. The rock was especially hot and stiff, with Young’s moduli exceeding 160 GPa in some locations. Drilling equipment was slung and lowered down the shaft before installation of the permanent shaft cage. Results advanced mine design.
