DA Smith offers the specialized personnel and equipment required for full-service surface and underground coring for mineral exploration, engineering/geological investigations, rock mechanics study, scientific testing, mine fire abatement, and site remediation.
We have the expert core drillers, adaptable equipment, and fabrication skills to complete the ordinary to the most challenging projects, large or small, conventional or specialized, and always scalable to fulfill our clients' needs.
In addition to our standard surface exploration rigs, DA Smith’s special fleet is designed to work in confined spaces and can be transported and assembled in difficult-to-access locations, including underground in mines and tunnels of all sizes, atop dams, inside galleries, and on scaffolding. Most equipment is heli-portable and crane-hoistable.
Our drills are powered by either diesel, electric, or pneumatic motors for compatibility with available power sources and can operate in MSHA 30 CFR Part 36/57/75 gassy mines. Our underground rigs are capable of drilling at any angle from vertical up to vertical down and in entries as low as 7 feet.
Conventional and wireline core drilling in hard, soft, and coal measure rocks is our specialty. Standard core sizes include N, H, P, and 6-inch. Large cores can be drilled in rock and concrete up to 30 inches in diameter and to depths of 100 feet.
N: 3,000 feet
H: 1,500 feet
P: 1,000 feet
6-inch: 500 feet

DA Smith has a superb MSHA/OSHA safety record and clean environmental record. Our field crews consist of skilled and knowledgeable drillers and technicians with project-relevant experience. All drillers have current MSHA 40-hour training, OSHA-HAZWOPER, and CPR/AED/First Aid training. Environmental controls are routinely implemented, including spill containment controls and the use of biodegradable (food-grade) hydraulic oil in our drills.
